Happiness from Around the World

ENG 112 Fall 2017

Happy

"Happy" a film produced and directed by Roko Belic is basically a documentary that takes us around the world to some of the most polar and remote cultures, to share different and perspectives and motives through the worlds most valued emotion. I actually loved this documentary and was almost excited to get to watch it a second time around. Being a global studies major, I love learning about the different perspectives in the world and trying to understand their views on the rest of the world and the foundations of their culture.

The part of the movie that I found the most interesting and can personally attest for, is the section that featured Denmark and discussed how it is one of the highest ranked countries in the world for overall satisfaction with life. When I was younger I lived in Germany and while the culture is not EXACTLY the same as the one demonstrated in Denmark, in the film, there were many similarities such as the common personal aspirations. In Germany the life style was very laid back and personal goals such as raising a good family and having a consistent and reliable job were very common. Here in America, everyone wants to make it big. How many soundcloud rappers who you know are supposedly "on the come up". How many aspiring future doctors do you know? Or how many people do you know that say "when I grow up I want to have a sustainable job and a salary to support my family and I", not many. Im not saying you shouldn't dream big but not everyone is/can be a movie star and walk the red carpet.

Overall, again, I absolutely love this film and I'm glad my professor showed it to me. I would 100% recommend this to any/everyone. My dad and I are both nerds and will send and recommend documentaries to each other and after I watched this I thought to myself, how much he would like it also!
